Šape Smedereva

The Founding of the Association

The years of dedicated work by activists in Smederevo, and their strong desire to establish an association, finally became a reality after a chance encounter with Maja Feser, who was using the Facebook group "Udomljavanje pasa i mačaka Smederevo" (Adoption of Dogs and Cats Smederevo) to search for her parents' lost dog. United by the same idea and a shared vision, the founding team immediately began working to formalize the endeavor, aiming to give the years-long fight for abandoned animals in our city a much-needed legal framework.

Since the official registration of the association on June 7, 2024, "Šape Smedereva" (Smederevo Paws) has been diligently working on its administrative, financial, organizational, and media establishment and further development. In parallel, they actively continue their mission of rescuing and aiding abandoned and endangered animals. The association is increasingly taking on the role of a representative for those who cannot speak for themselves, protecting them from irresponsible owners and violence.

The Ongoing Struggle

While the association is gradually growing, the situation in the region and the country is unfortunately deteriorating: there are increasingly more endangered, sick, and abandoned dogs on the streets. This critical situation alarms us daily, and we are compelled to seek help from all good people and organizations, both domestically and internationally, so that we can continue our work.

For years, I suffered while visiting my hometown, seeing so many abandoned, sick, and starving animals perish on the streets. The sadness and the feeling of powerlessness became unbearable, as their eyes cried out for help. While looking for Pakia, I finally met several dedicated local activists and realized that together, united, we could achieve so much more. From that moment until today, I have been driven solely by the desire to help in our mission for them.

Responsible ownership and a city free of stray animals are my guiding stars. In addition to my family, who are my main inspiration and support, the sight of each new adopted animal fulfills me and makes me happy.

I have been rescuing animals since I was a child. I started bringing home sick, injured and abandoned dogs and cats a long time ago and this habit has continued to this day. Many of the animals I have rescued have been adopted and a good number have stayed with me - the ones that no one else wants.

I love animals and try to make their lives on the streets as easy as possible, and I'm happiest when I find them a home. I would like to help the association to reduce the number of abandoned dogs and cats on the streets.

My empathy for animals has brought me here, among these wonderful people who share the same goal of creating a better and safer place for our four-legged friends. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my Fifi, who opened my eyes and showed me how much love, warmth and loyalty there is in one little creature. Thanks to her, I now know that loving and caring for animals makes us better people.🩷

I have always loved animals and have always tried to help the endangered and abandoned ones. I want us to work together to contribute to as many happily adopted animals as possible, because I believe that they all deserve a nice and safe home, and I'm sure we can make that happen!

All animals deserve a safe home filled with love. I believe that helping even one animal means a lot. Abandoned animals everywhere, including my town of Smederevo deserve much more care and love than they get. I hope that volunteering work in this association will make that happen.

As we can see, the situation in Serbia for pets and other animals is catastrophic, hell on earth for animals. My wish as an animal lover is to try, both as an individual and through an association, to awaken empathy in people and make them obey the law, and to make those in charge of law enforcement do their job and sanction those responsible for this hell. At the moment I have 6 dogs at home and 3 that I look after in other places, all mixed breeds rescued from the streets. From 2019, a vegetarian for a few months and later a vegan. The world and the collective consciousness is changing, starting with you.

My desire to help animals and give a voice to the voiceless drove me to join the association. I believe that every being deserves the chance to live with dignity, and I try to support those who cannot fight for a better tomorrow themselves.
