Initiative

The initiative to establish the association was taken in the Facebook group - “Udomljavanje pasa i mačaka Smederevo”, in order to improve the previous work of the group with the aim of taking care of stray dogs and cats in the Smederevo region, organising vaccinations and hygiene, necessary medical care, transport and accommodation of animals in temporary shelters and further care, as well as active search for future responsible owners, i.e. new safe and loving homes for them.

Group's history

The group “Udomljavanje pasa i mačaka Smederevo” was founded ten years ago by two young people with the idea and desire to return lost dogs and cats to their owners, to treat the sick and help them recover, and to find new homes and responsible owners for abandoned animals. Today the group has almost 12,000 members. We are proud to say that several hundred dogs and cats have been saved thanks to this group and its members.

Founding the Association

The activists' long-standing desire to form an association came to fruition when they met Maja Feser, who was looking for her parents' lost dog through the “Udomljavanje pasa i mačaka Smederevo” Facebook group. United by the same idea and a common vision, the founding team has been working on the realisation of the project ever since, to give a legal framework to the multi-year strive for abandoned animals in our city.

Since the registration of the association on 07.06.2024. "Šape Smedereva" has been working on various topics of administrative, financial, organisational and media foundation and development, while at the same time continuing the work of rescuing and helping abandoned and endangered animals.

Despite the fact that Šape Smedereva is officially a very young association, due to the history of association means that we have decades of rich experience, which is the basis for the further association's development.

I have been rescuing animals since I was a child. I started bringing home sick, injured and abandoned dogs and cats a long time ago and this habit has continued to this day.
